今週末は、長男が通う大学を訪ねてカルフォルニアに来ている。２月だというのに、ぽかぽかと暖かく、Tシャツと短パンで十分。いまだに氷点下の日が続くシアトルとは大違いだ。
シアトルに住む引退した老人たちは、渡り鳥のように、冬場になるとカルフォルニアとかアリゾナに一時的に移動するのだが、その気持ちが分からなくもない。
シアトルに戻ると、またあの灰色の空としばらく付き合わなければならないので、ここにいる間だけでも、太陽を一杯に浴びてビタミンDをたくさん作っておかなければならない。
