User Interface is an Art

Universal client by Adobe

I have just happened to find this paragraph on Adobe's public statement - very interesting.

What are Adobe's plans for Flash Player and Adobe Reader?
Our long-term plan is to develop a "universal client" by combining PDF, Flash and HTML in a single, integrated runtime. Of course, we will continue delivering the Flash Player as a small, efficient runtime for content and applications on the web, and Adobe Reader for viewing and interacting with PDF documents and forms. The integration of these technologies into a unified framework creates a ubiquitous platform that runs on virtually every device, and dramatically expands the opportunities to create compelling solutions.

IBM announces "podcasting guideline"

Take a look at the "IBM podcasting guideline" made by IBM. This is a guideline for IBM employees who participate in podcasting. It includes obvious messages like "do not podcast IBM confidential material" or "Protect your privacy and the privacy of others", but the most significant part of this is in the fact that IBM is encouranging employeers to participate this type of activities including podcasting and blogging.

  • To learn: As an innovation-based company, we believe in the importance of open exchange and learning -- between IBM and its clients, and among the many constituents of our emerging business and societal ecosystem. The rapidly growing phenomenon of blogging and online dialogue are emerging important arenas for that kind of engagement and learning.
  • To contribute: IBM -- as a business, as an innovator and as a corporate citizen -- makes important contributions to the world, to the future of business and technology, and to public dialogue on a broad range of societal issues. As our business activities increasingly focus on the provision of transformational insight and high-value innovation -- whether to business clients or those in the public, educational or health sectors -- it becomes increasingly important for IBM and IBMers to share with the world the exciting things wee doing learning and doing, and to learn from others.

In 1997, IBM recommended that its employees get out onto the Net -- at a time when many companies were seeking to restrict their employees' Internet access. We continue to advocate IBMers' responsible involvement today in this new, rapidly growing space of relationship, learning and collaboration.

A good summary of Mobile Data market

This is a very good summary of world-wide mobile market. Japan is still the leader, but the rest of world is quickly catching up. North America is actually behind the rest of world. For example, the penetration of camera phone is 89% in Japan, 36% world wide, and 15% in North America. So as the color screen (92%, 52% and 48% respectively).

ZDNet: A view into Google's inner workings

ZENet article: A view into Google's inner workings

I think there are a lot of things we can learn from Google, especially how they deal with projects and beta releases. I especially like "Test, don't guess" attitude, which, I believe, the key to succeed in this two-way communication era.
